Lighten up your Tunnel – Rowena Marshall

This wonderful day I would like to introduce you one of the beautiful, passionate lady from R - EditSouth Africa. Rowena Marshall.

We met on a group via LinkedIn and became great friends. Got inspired by her life’s lessons. The way she handled her life all alone is truly inspiring. She’s seen ups and downs but never lost courage and kept fighting. Truly inspirational.

Yesterday while talking to her, I asked her if she can write something for my blog.

She says, “When Aviral asked me if I would write something for his blog, I honestly thought he had lost his mind.  What could a 44-year-old, manic-depressive, lonely, single mother have to say that anyone else would want to hear?  I spent a good few minutes thinking about it and realized that no matter who we are, where we come from, what we do, we all have something to share and offer.

She pen downs nicely with beautiful words….

“Life is a wealth of experiences and in sharing them, we can enrich each other’s lives.”

There is a saying “Laugh, and the world laughs with you.  Cry, and you cry alone”.

I have had occasion to experience this saying first hand, and I recently discovered that friends can be found in the strangest places.

Being something of a loner makes going through tough times just a little harder, especially since my main confidant, my Mom, passed away suddenly just two years ago.

A short while ago, I hit a major relationship wobbly and was teetering dangerously on the edge of my sanity and was definitely ready to plunge, head first, into the deep abyss of depression.

rashad_evansAfter opening a link, forwarded by a friend, I discovered the immense benefits of the internet.  Here I found a wealth of multiple motivational sites; self-help blogs; and support groups, where hundreds of faceless, and often nameless people fight their own demons; offer their support, and share their experiences with the rest of us troubled minions… It was here, through sharing, reading, and listening, I gradually found my sanity again, and started my journey towards becoming whole.

We are never really alone.  We may feel like our troubles are insurmountable and that there is no end in sight, and that all we can do is to crumple to the floor, curl up, cry, and wallow in the deep depths of self-pity and anger, and finally just give up the fight.

if-you-ever-dare-to-fight-hatredWAIT!  DON’T!!  WE DON’T NEED TO DO THAT ANYMORE!!!

There IS a way…

There IS light at the end of that long dark tunnel….

The world is FULL of amazing people.  People who want to reach out and touch the souls of total strangers, and bring living and loving back into their lives.

I found this online… and it has changed my life forever.

I learnt the about the simple act of repeating basic affirmations: giving myself permission to love who I am; to be proud of myself; to acknowledge that I am worth more than I give myself credit for.  So many affirmations to feed the soul… the list is just endless.  Yes, I felt stupid doing them at first, but once I started experiencing that positive change, deep inside, feeling stupid suddenly didn’t seem like such a big deal anymore.

imagesThrough this marvelous invention called the internet, I found and made so many wonderful, beautiful friends.

Friends to cry with.

Friends to laugh with.

Friends to share with.

Friends to lean on.

Friends, who are there for me, anytime, day or night.

Friends, who despite having never met me face to face, ask daily about my wellbeing.

Friends, who have nothing to gain or lose, by sharing their stories and their advice…

Friends who care.

I know that I will NEVER have to cry alone, ever again.  And my laughter, well, that flows easily and more often now… because, through this modern marvel, I have found ME.  I have come in contact with a wealth of amazing people, from all over the world, who have the capacity to love, share, help, and care about total strangers.

Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life….

Keep Smiling… 🙂

Keep Tongue and Words Sweet

“Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another.”

– Napolean Hill

I have heard that words are the most powerful alarming weapon in the world. And the most dangerous is how you use them and the way you talk.

wordsSometimes when we use piercing words politely, it touch the hearts. And sometimes when we use soft words but in harsh language it jabs. Literally it cuts the heart into two pieces.

Let me tell you one sweet story.

There was once a wise sage who wandered the countryside. One day, as he passed near a village, he was approached by a woman who told him of a sick child. She beseeched him to help this child.

So the sage came to the village and a crowd gathered around him, for such a man was a rare sight. One woman brought the sick child to him and he said a prayer over her.

Do you really think your prayer will help her, when medicines has failed?” yelled a man from the crowd.

You know nothing of such things! You are a stupid fool!” said the sage to the man.

The man became very angry with these words and his face grew hot and red. He was about to say something, or perhaps strike out, when the sage walked over to him and said: “If one word has such power as to make you so angry and hot, may not another have the power to heal?

Kind-WordsAnd thus, the sage healed two people that day.

Moral of the Story is clear. Words make the difference and especially how wisely and politely you use them.

“Better than a thousand hollow words, is one word that brings peace.”

Buddha

Most of the time, unintentionally and unknowingly we use stupid words which jabs the listener and hurts their feelings. So we should always use words wisely and most importantly politely.

words-quotes-wordsWhen you are in anger or not in good mood, better do not utter a single word if you really give importance to your relationships.

Keep your tongue and words sweet.

Keep Smiling.. 🙂

Anger makes you Insane

One day Buddha was walking through a village. A very angry and rude young man came up and began insulting him. “You have no right teaching others,” he shouted. “You are as stupid as everyone else. You are nothing but a fake.”

man_shoutBuddha was not upset by these insults. Instead he asked the young man politely, “Tell me, if you buy a gift for someone, and that person does not take it, to whom does the gift belong?”

The man was surprised to be asked such a strange question and answered. “It would belong to me, because I bought the gift.”

The Buddha smiled and said, “That is correct. And it’s exactly the same with your anger. If you become angry with me and I do not get insulted, then the anger fall back on you. You are then the only one who becomes unhappy, not me. All you have done is hurt yourself.”

buddha quote“If you want to stop hurting yourself, you must get rid of your anger and become loving instead. When you hate others, you yourself become unhappy. But when you love others, everyone along with you is happy.”

Man asked surprisingly, “Why you did not feel insulted?”

The Buddha again asked him the second question, “If I give your two fruits and among them one is fresh and juicy while the other is dusted and not fresh, which fruit will you eat?”

buddha_angerMan obviously replied the first one. Buddha smiled and asked again, “Why?”.

He replied, “The dusted fruit can make me ill.”

The Buddha said, “Exactly. That dusted layer is the layer of ego. I did not get insulted because neither I do have any ego nor I did something wrong. Ego kills us and leads to ill-health and disrespectful.”

The young man listened closely to these wise words of the Buddha and apologized.

Keep Smiling… 🙂
